Week 31: Outdoors, Letter Z, Number 12

Another favorite week for Ms. Gwen! Nothing beats talking about the fun we have outside! So many awesome things happened in our classroom this week. Look at these pictures of some of the amazing outdoors activities that we did.

Working on our letter Z.

Tracing spring words.

Love this! They created a zoo with animals and links for the fence.

It was very ooey and gooey making our bird's nests.

Here are some of them drying.

Coloring the spring words paper.

They loved the free art station, so we did it again!

Making the birds that are flying in our classroom right now.

Stamping 12 stars on our number 12 paper.

Our picnic snack

Playing in the tent

Making lego creations.

Finishing our bird's nests.

Singing around the campfire outside of the tent.

And "roasting" marshmallows over the fire.

You can see why I love this week so much! Learning through experiencing is so awesome with preschoolers. Instead of just talking about camping, we pretended to camp!

Here is our classroom newsletter for the week. Next week is spring flowers and letter V, our last letter of the year!

Week 30: Pond, Letter X, Number 11

Spring time themes are so much fun! Pond week is a great chance to learn about frogs, turtles, ducks, fish, and more. We sing many pond songs like "Little White Duck," a great book with a song. We learned the word narrator while reading and singing "Little White Duck." Also, "5 Green and Speckled Frogs" and "5 Little Ducks" are good pond songs. We re-enacted the story of the tortoise and the hare and talked about the moral of the story: slow and steady wins the race!

Here are some pictures from pond week.

Stencils, fancy scissors, punches, stickers, and more at our free art station.

Making 5 green and speckled frogs sitting on a speckled log.

Creative play with the dinosaurs

Everyone playing near each other, but not all together. I love how our class plays!

Imaginary play with pretend pets.

Here is our classroom newsletter for the week and the May snack calendar. Looking forward to outdoors week!

Week 29: Recycle Week/Bugs/Letter F

I love bugs! Okay, I really don't love bugs. But, I do love bug week at preschool. We learned all about ladybugs, caterpillars, butterflies, bumble bees, and more!

We also learned about protecting our earth in honor of Earth Day. We learned the words reduce, reuse, and recycle and sang a fun song to help us remember them. Our water pollution experiment was of great interest to the kids. We put celery in a cup of water and an open marker in a different cup of water. At the end of class, I asked which water they would like to drink. They did NOT want to drink the marker water! Hopefully, they will remember to throw their garbage in the trash can or the recycling bin!

Here are some pictures of station time this week.

Also, here is our class newsletter for the week. Next week, we will learn all about ponds!

Week 28: Rainbow, Letter K

It's rainbow week! We sang so many fun rainbow songs that also taught us about how rainbows are made and what colors are in the rainbow. Here is one...

(To the tune of "Did you ever see a lassie")
Did you ever see a rainbow, a rainbow, a rainbow?
Did you ever see a rainbow light up the grey sky?
With red, orange, and yellow,
Green, blue, and purple
Did you ever see a rainbow light up the grey sky?

We also did many rainbow crafts to help us practice the order of the colors in the rainbow. Here is a picture of our rainbow streamers. I love them!

They looked so beautiful while we danced with them to all of our rainbow songs!

On Wednesday, Busy Brains came to visit Gloryland. It is basically a traveling children's museum. The children had a great time playing with all the fun exhibits. Here are a few pictures of some of the playing and learning options.

The other excitement of the week was seeing our little caterpillars for the first time. We will be watching them grow bigger, make cocoons, and become butterflies!

What a great week! Next week, we will be learning about Earth day and bugs! Here is our class newsletter for the week.

Week 27: Easter

He is risen! Hooray for Easter!

We had a glorious week learning about Easter.  Planting grass seed, learning about bunnies, and hearing the story of Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection! Easter is always an exciting time. Here are some pictures and videos of the fun we had together.

Playing with Easter animals in pretend grass at the sensory table.

Using colored pencils at Ms. Gwen's table.
