Cooking, cooking, cooking! Our class had so much fun cooking together. We made nachos, english muffin pizzas, and cookies. We learned about gathering the correct ingredients and following the recipe. We also estimated how much pasta would fit into different size measuring cups, and then counted to see how close our answers were. I took SO many pictures this week. Come take a look at what we have been doing...
Sorting by colors, just for fun!
Playing in the sand with measuring cups and sifters.
Making chef hats with Ms. Donna
Look at all of our adorable chefs!
Eating a snack of nachos.
Following the recipe to make pizza.
Playing in flour with cooking utensils. Messy, but fun!
I love all these cute faces while they wait for their pizzas to cool.
An up close shot of the flour.
Gathering our ingredients to make cookies.
Starting to mix everything in the big bowl.
Ms. Donna helped us roll out the dough.
Then we each made a heart using a cookie cutter.
Our finished cookies. Yummy!
Here is our class newsletter and our April snack calendar.
I hope that you all have a blessed and rest-filled spring break!
Dinosaur week! We had a great time pretending to be dinosaurs, learning about dinosaurs, and making dinosaurs. There are three science words that we try to learn this week; extinct, carnivore, and herbivore. Thanks to "Dinosaur Train," many of the children know A LOT about dinosaurs. I always learn something from them during this week!
I only took one picture this week, but it's a good one! Here is a picture of our class measuring how tall a T-Rex would be using our bodies. Guess what...we didn't even have enough people in the class! T-Rex sure is tall!
Here is our class newsletter for the week! So excited for cooking week!
"Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one."
-Dr. Seuss
What a fun week! We started with a visit from a few high school kids from the Grayslake North band. They played their instruments for us, read a fun music book, and led us in a marching band. We loved hearing them play and adding our instruments to the band too!
And then it was on to all things Dr. Seuss! We read so many Dr. Seuss books..."Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," "Mr. Brown Can Moo...Can You?" "Wocket in my Pocket," "Fox in Socks," and "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."
In "Fox in Sox," there is gooey goo. So, we made some gooey goo ourselves. The kids loved the goo!
We had a great green day on Wednesday. Look at our green group!
On Friday, we made our "Cat in the Hat" hats. Plus, we wore crazy socks for "Fox in Socks." During snack time, we watched a part of the cartoon version of "Cat in the Hat." I just love Dr. Seuss!
Here is our classroom newsletter for the week. And I'll end with this wonderful Dr. Seuss quote...
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
It's time to go down on the farm! Farm week is such a blast! Not sure who loves it more, me or the students. Some of my favorite songs are this week; "Down on Grandpa's Farm," "Old Macdonald," "Pig on my Head," "I Know a Chicken." So much fun!
Here are some great pictures of all the activities we did during farm week.
Getting ready to pray before snack time.
Trying out the butter we made on a cracker.
My favorite quote, "It tastes like butter!"
Playing together during free play.
Working together to put together a farm puzzle.
Putting "mud" on their pigs.
Very squishy!
Playing with chalk on a somewhat warm afternoon.
Wish it wasn't so windy!
Beautiful chalk art.
More chalk art.
Here is our classroom newsletter for the week. Can't wait for Dr. Seuss fun next week!
A very short week this week! No school on Monday and a snow day on Friday...here is one day of very fun and important work!
We had a great visit from a dental hygienist to talk all about keeping our teeth healthy and strong. Now all the children are experts in taking care of their teeth!
Back in the classroom, we used our new knowledge to practice using toothbrushes on some pretend fruit in the water table. It was very fun!
We also spent time talking about the importance of healthy eating, moving our bodies, and getting good sleep at night. Phew! That was a very busy day!
Here is our classroom newsletter for the week and our March snack calendar. Next week we will be learning all about the farm!
