Even though we only had two days this week, they were jam packed with fire safety fun! On Monday, we all went through an obstacle course to save a teddy bear from a fire. We jumped in hoops, balanced on a balance beam, and crawled through a tunnel. After we saved the teddy bear, we had to crawl underneath the parachute just like we would crawl underneath the smoke. Phew, the teddy bear is safe!
On Wednesday, we had chapel with Pastor Brian. We love chapel time! We get to sing, dance, and learn more about Jesus.
We also rolled a dice and got to spray the burning house however many we rolled. Spray bottles are fun and help with finger strength.
Speaking of spray bottles, here is a video of our class spraying a pretend fire outside. Fire safety can be fun and is so important! Please review everything that your child learned throughout the year!
Here is our newsletter for the week. Have a great day!
Who are the people in your neighborhood? I love community helpers week! And who doesn't love that old Sesame Street song? Ah, memories from my childhood!
We learned about doctors, firefighters, mail carriers, and bakers. Firefighter John came to visit and shared important information like "Stop, Drop, and Roll", 911, and how to crawl out of the way of smoke. We will learn more about fire safety next week. Here are some pictures of our time with Firefighter John.
A very fun part of our day is station time. There are four stations every day that your child visits. Here are our four stations from Friday.
Station One (Ms. Gwen's table): Coloring and cutting a Letter O for Octopus windsock. These are now hanging in our classroom and will come home later in the year.
Station Two: Today we played with playdough and blocks together. Some of our students are very creative and used the blocks as tools. Others created buildings with the playdough and blocks together. This group made lots of little balls with the playdough. Playdough is a great way to build small motor skills and finger strength. Plus, it is very fun!
Station Three (Ms. Donna's table): Making our mail carrier bags was fun and challenging. Lacing is a complicated skill. Our kids did great!
Station Four: Free play! During this station, the children can play anywhere in the room that they would like. This group was playing in the kitchen area. Our class plays together so nicely. It is a joy to see them working together and learning to share and take turns.
Here is the October snack calendar and our class newsletter for the week. Have a great weekend and we will see you next week!
It has been great learning about families, especially about your families. We did a BIG family graph with the names of everyone who lives with us written above our family name. It is hanging on our bulletin board, so check it out! We also talked about family pets and graphed who had a pet at home and who did not. Part of being in a family, is using our helping hands. Each child should have brought home a set of handprints with "My hands help by..." It was great hearing how your children help out at home.
I am pretty sure the highlight of the week was our Skittles experiment. Today we placed three Skittles in a bowl and covered them with water to see what would happen. Before we started, we came up with some ideas of what might happen. (They would get yucky. They might fall apart. We wouldn't want to eat them anymore.) After careful observation, we saw that the colors came off of the Skittles and went into the water. Not only that, but the S on the Skittles floats to the surface of the water. One of the students deducted that if you hold Skittles in your hands too long the color will come off on you. Very true.
Observing the Skittles during our experiment
Green, yellow, and orange towards the beginning of the time
Red, purple, and yellow towards the end of the time.
If you look carefully next to the green Skittle, you will see the floating S
I think it would be pretty cruel to be around all this candy without getting some to eat. So, as a part of snack today, everyone got a little cup of Skittles. Hooray for food science experiments!
Here is our newsletter for the week. Can't wait to learn about Community Helpers next week. Have a great weekend!
We had a great week learning all the school rules, celebrating yellow day, and practicing writing the number zero.
Here is a picture of our color science experiment. This started as one black dot with just a little edge of the coffee filter in the water. The water "climbed up" the coffee filter and the colors separated out of the black dot and kept on going higher. One of the kids thinks it looks like a butterfly!
Here are some pictures from our awesome yellow day snack...bananas! We had a very yellowy day.

We have had a great first week of school! It has been a pleasure getting to know all of the children. I can already tell that we are going to have an awesome year!
Our stations on Friday included looking at our fingerprints with a magnifying glass, doing a letter treasure hunt in the sand, and playing with tangram blocks.
Also here is our snack calendar for September and this week's newsletter. Click on them to make them larger (and easier to read.)
Can't wait to see everyone next week! Please make sure you fill out the star student form and the form about your child's name and return on Monday. Have a great weekend!
